G2 take the series 3-1 against KC in dominant LEC Summer playoffs win

G2 Esports have beaten Karmine Corp 3-1 in the LEC Summer playoffs 2026. The win sends G2 through to the next stage, while KC now have to fight their way back through the lower bracket.

It is G2’s second series win of the LEC Summer playoffs, after they beat Team Vitality 3-0 in the previous round. KC had been one of the strongest teams in the league all Summer, but G2 have now beaten them twice. The first came in the regular season with a 2-1 win, and this time G2 came out on top 3-1.

The official LEC tournament bracket has the full LEC Summer playoffs picture, while G2's League of Legends team page provides the team's official roster information.

G2 take the series 3-1 against KC

Karmine Corp came into the series with a 6-1 regular-season record and had looked extremely difficult to stop for most of the split. G2 were the exception, and the LEC Summer playoffs have only made that matchup look more one-sided.

G2 did not rely on one player to win the series. They kept KC under pressure, got the better fights and made use of all the opportunities that presented themselves. KC managed to put up a fight in Game 3, but G2 managed to come back in Game 4 and won the series 3-1.

It is difficult not to acknowledge the performance of G2 recently. While the performance in the regular season was patchy, things have definitely improved since the start of the LEC Summer playoffs. G2 had won six consecutive games in the playoffs before KC stopped the run in Game 3. G2 then responded by winning Game 4 to take the series.

KC looked unbeatable, except when they faced G2

KC finished the Summer regular season 6-1, losing only to G2 Esports. That made G2 the one team KC had failed to overcome, and the playoffs rematch only strengthened that trend as G2 took the series 3-1.

That makes G2 the clear exception to KC's otherwise dominant Summer campaign. Karmine Corp showed throughout the split that they could consistently beat the rest of the field, yet G2 have now defeated them twice, taking five of the six games played between the teams this Summer.

The timing is also notable for G2. After a more inconsistent regular season, the team has found another level when the LEC Summer playoffs arrived. The 3-0 victory over Team Vitality was followed by a 3-1 win against KC, giving G2 seven series wins in a row across their two playoff matchups and showing just how much better the team has looked in the postseason.

For KC, the result shows that their path to the title may run directly through G2. They have proven they can dominate the wider LEC field, but G2 have repeatedly been able to disrupt their game plan. If these teams meet again later in the LEC Summer playoffs, KC will need to find a different answer to the team that has caused them the most problems all Summer.

KC avoid the sweep in Game 3

With G2 entering Game 3 already ahead 2-0, KC needed a major change to extend the series. This time, KC found the win they needed and stopped G2 from completing the sweep.

This made it 2-1 in favor of G2, but also gave KC momentum going into Game 4. G2 was just one game away from winning the series, while KC wanted to extend it to a fifth and final game.

G2 ultimately got the job done in Game 4, ending the series 3-1 and sending KC down to the lower bracket.

G2's map control made the difference

One of the clearest themes from the series was G2's ability to connect lane pressure with objective control. When KC attempted to respond to one side of the map, G2 could use the resulting space elsewhere.

That was particularly visible in the opening games. G2 repeatedly converted pressure around the bottom side into opportunities elsewhere, while their teamfighting became more dangerous as their carries reached their item spikes.

KC took Game 3 to make the score 2-1. G2 answered in Game 4, winning the series 3-1.

The G2 carries stepped up when it mattered

Caps, Hans Sama and BrokenBlade all played important roles in G2's ability to maintain pressure, while SkewMond and Labrov helped create the setups that allowed the carries to operate.

The first two games highlighted how dangerous G2 became once their damage was online. Hans Sama repeatedly found opportunities to deal damage from range, while Caps was able to punish KC when they overextended into fights.

That balance made G2 difficult to shut down. KC could not simply focus on one player without leaving another member of G2 with an opportunity to take over the fight.

A Madrid roadshow without MKOI on stage

There is an extra twist to this weekend's LEC Summer playoffs. The LEC has brought the action to Madrid Arena for the MKOI Roadshow, running from September 5-6, but Movistar KOI are not playing on their own home stage.

MKOI helped bring the LEC back to Madrid, but their Summer Split results left them outside the top-four race and unable to compete at the roadshow. We covered the unusual situation in why Movistar KOI will miss their own LEC Madrid roadshow.
