Teamfight Tactics patch 17.4 reworks Arbiter, buffs Psionic items and disables Ekko’s Patience

by RiftDaily Admin | Jun 1, 2026 | TFT, News, Patch Notes, Updates

Teamfight Tactics patch 17.4 is now live with a broad balance pass aimed at opening more viable comps, led by a major Arbiter rework, more flexible Psionic items, N.O.V.A. buffs and a May 29 mid-patch fix that temporarily disables Ekko’s Patience.

The update focuses less on one headline carry and more on giving underplayed traits, champions and Augments enough strength to return to the meta. It also reins in Dark Star 6, Corki, Fiora and several combat Augments that were performing too efficiently.

Patch 17.4 is built around making more TFT comps playable through trait reworks, item changes and champion buffs.

What changed in Teamfight Tactics patch 17.4

The biggest design shift is Arbiter. Riot has reorganized Arbiter Inputs and Outputs into clearer pools, so players are guaranteed one option from each category instead of being pushed toward a narrow set of workable combinations. That should make the trait less dependent on high-roll offerings and easier to evaluate during normal lobby play.

Riot also made Psionic items more general, which means the trait should no longer feel locked to a tiny group of ideal holders. Target-Lock Optics is now positioned for both AD and AP champions that swap targets, while Drone Uplink, Malware Matrix and Sympathetic Implant gained broader offensive and utility stats.

Arbiter gets the patch’s biggest rework

Arbiter now separates Inputs into three categories: Consistent, Conditional and Economy Based. Players will see one input from each category. Outputs are similarly grouped into Offense, Defense and Economy, with one output from each group always offered.

The practical result is that Arbiter boards should have clearer direction. Offense options include Ability Power and Attack Speed, defensive options include permanent max health, shields and resistances, while economy options can grant gold or Leona copies.

The Leona economy output also has a new overflow rule. If the chance to gain Gold or Leona exceeds 100%, the excess can roll into a second reward, capped at two triggers. Riot later fixed a May 29 bug where Arbiter could grant two triggers without Arbiter 3 active and another bug where Arbiter economy triggers activated more often than intended.

Trait buffs target N.O.V.A., Psionic, Space Groove and Stargazer

N.O.V.A. 5 receives several targeted buffs. Aatrox now deals 65% of spell damage through the N.O.V.A. bonus, up from 50%. Akali’s bleed numbers increased, and Kindred’s damage amp doubled from 5% to 10%, with the mark timer reduced from 5 seconds to 4.5 seconds.

Psionic is the other major trait winner. Drone Uplink now grants damage amp, Malware Matrix gives damage amp, attack speed and omnivamp, and Sympathetic Implant adds damage amp, attack speed and mana regen. Target-Lock Optics now gives AD, AP and attack speed, then ramps Attack Damage or Ability Power when the holder damages each enemy for the first time in combat.

Space Groove 7 also rises from a 10% bonus to 15%, while several Stargazer patterns were adjusted. Fountain gains more healing and stronger five-piece scaling, Huntress shifts more power toward Stargazer units, and Mountain and Serpent receive tuning to keep their patterns in line.

The major trait nerf is Dark Star 6. Its bonus drops from 85% to 70%, and Mini Dark Hole HP falls from 30% of Dark Star HP to 25%. That should make the trait less oppressive when powered by a spare Spatula.

Champion buffs and nerfs reshape reroll and late-game boards

Patch 17.4 buffs several lower-cost champions that had fallen out of contention. Aatrox’s heal improves at every star level, while Twisted Fate has his 17.3 nerf partially walked back with higher minimum and maximum spell damage. Bel’Veth also receives a damage revert, giving Primordian Queen lines another chance without restoring all of their previous power.

Two-cost changes are especially important because the patch also improves Exalted Adventure rewards. Gnar gains base attack speed, Gwen gains resistances and better three-star damage, Jax’s damage reduction no longer scales with AP, and Zoe’s spell damage climbs to support Arbiter Vanguard-style boards.

At tier three, Aurora, Miss Fortune, Ornn and Viktor are buffed, while Rhaast’s Redeemer aura is flattened and reduced. At tier four, Corki takes direct nerfs to Missile and Meeple Rocket damage, Morgana becomes a one-range tank with a stronger shield scalar, Nami casts more often, and Xayah gets more base AD and better main-target spell damage.

The tier-five section is more mixed. Graves gains base attack speed but has a harsher Laser Ballistics falloff, Fiora’s true damage is reduced, Shen’s spell damage improves, and Zed’s mana changes delay his first cast while improving his clone health at two stars.

Augments, Radiant items and Emblems also move

Several strong combat Augments were nerfed. Shieldmaiden, Self-Destruct, Reach for the Stars, Hard Commit, Hold the Line, Group Hug, Kahunahuna and Sweet Treats all lose some efficiency. Sunfire Board and Mace’s Will are also no longer offered on 2-1.

Other Augments get meaningful buffs. One Two Three now grants two one-costs, Booster Pack rises to 12 gold in total value, Charge Transfer I and II gain more damage amp, Exalted Adventure rewards increase by about 15%, and Heart of the Swarm now grants two Tiny Duplicators while improving the Apex Primordian.

Radiant Adaptive Helm, Radiant Dragon’s Claw and Radiant Guinsoo’s Rageblade receive buffs, while Radiant Gargoyle’s Stoneplate and Radiant Nashor’s Tooth are toned down. On the Emblem side, Arbiter Emblem rises from 20% to 30% attack speed, while Rogue Emblem omnivamp drops from 40% to 25%.

May 29 mid-patch update disables Ekko’s Patience

Riot followed the main 17.4 release with a May 29 bug-fix update. The most visible change is that Ekko’s Patience has been temporarily disabled because the Artifact could sometimes deal double its intended damage. Riot said it would keep the item disabled for the remainder of the patch while the issue is fixed and tested.

The same update fixed two Arbiter bugs tied to extra triggers and economy trigger frequency. It also corrected Varus’ Boon, which had been granting the wrong amount of health.

Choncc’s K.O. Coliseum and bug fixes

Choncc’s K.O. Coliseum also gets targeted changes. Star Guardian and Soul Fighter Prismatic breakpoints both move from 10 to 11, making those prismatic traits harder to access in the mode.

Riot also fixed multiple mode-specific issues, including Mighty Mech invulnerability bugs tied to And I’ll Form the Head and reputation tracking problems with Crowd Favorite. General bug fixes address Nunu and Willump revival cases, Morgana’s Pengu’s Blessing tooltip, Master Yi targeting, Dark Star 6 Mini Black Hole interactions, Soraka’s Miracle behavior, Samira passive triggers and Steamroll+ gold rewards.

What to watch after the 17.4 update

The main story after Teamfight Tactics patch 17.4 is whether the Arbiter rework and Psionic item changes create more stable comp diversity without letting Leona economy lines take over again. N.O.V.A., Space Groove, Stargazer and several reroll boards now have more power, while Dark Star and Corki should have less room to dominate lobbies.

The May 29 hotfix shows that Riot is already watching the patch closely, especially around Arbiter economy behavior and bugged Artifact damage. Further changes will depend on whether the newly buffed comps settle into the meta or create another balance spike over the coming days.
