Account linking League of Legends guide: How to connect Riot and Discord accounts

by Majbritt Dybdal Bjerre | May 22, 2026 | Guides, News

Account linking for LoL is now available through Riot and Discord, giving League of Legends players a faster way to invite friends, share lobby links, and see which Discord friends are playing Riot games.

Riot Games is starting the Discord account linking beta with League of Legends players in the United States, Canada, and Brazil. More regions are expected to follow, but for now, players elsewhere can only prepare their accounts ahead of time. The new invite and lobby-sharing features will appear once the beta reaches their region.

What Discord linking in LoL unlocks

The new integration is built around reducing the time it takes to get a party together. Once Riot and Discord are linked, League players can bring Discord friends into their party without tabbing out of the client.

They can also copy a party or lobby link and drop it into a Discord server, DM, or group chat where friends are already organizing games. That should be especially useful for groups that normally organize games in voice channels or server chats before opening League.

Riot says the connected friends list will show Discord friends who play Riot games, helping players jump into parties faster. For broader League coverage, RiftDaily’s League news section tracks major Riot updates, while the guides hub covers practical setup and gameplay topics.

How to account link LoL through Riot account management

The quickest way to link the accounts is through Riot’s official Discord account linking page. Sign in with the Riot ID you use for League of Legends, then open account management.

The easiest place to start is Riot’s account website. Sign in with the Riot ID you use for League of Legends, then open account management.

This route is useful for players who want to set up the integration before launching League. It is also the place to manage or unlink an existing Discord connection if the wrong account was connected.

How to link Discord from the League of Legends client

League players can also start the connection directly in the game client. Open League of Legends, go to Add Friends, and select Connect Discord Account when the option appears.

From there, confirm the login and authorization prompts. Riot notes that players may be asked to log in to Discord during the process, so it is worth checking that the correct Discord account is active before approving the connection.

This method is likely the easiest for players who mainly care about using Discord linking inside League, since it starts from the same social area where friend invites are managed.

How to connect Riot from Discord

The third option starts inside Discord. Open Discord settings, go to Connections, and select the Riot Games fistbump logo. Riot says some players may need to choose View More before the Riot Games option appears.

After selecting Riot Games, follow the prompts and log in to the correct Riot account when asked. Once authorization is complete, the Riot and Discord accounts should be connected.

Players who already had an older Riot or League connection may still see legacy entries in Discord Connections during the global rollout. Riot says legacy connections will remain during the transition, but players who want the new benefits may need to unlink and reconnect through the updated flow.

Why Discord friends may not appear in League

The integrated friends list does not pull in every person from every Discord server. Riot says a friend needs an existing Riot ID, a formal Discord friend connection, and linked Riot and Discord accounts before appearing in the integrated experience.

That means someone who shares a server or voice channel, but is not actually added as a Discord friend, may not appear. The same applies if that person has not linked their own Riot and Discord accounts.

If a friend cannot accept a League invite, Riot recommends fully closing and relaunching Discord and the Riot Client so both can update. Linking accounts on the friend’s side may also resolve the issue and unlock the full invite experience.

Regions, beta limits, and VALORANT support

The Discord linking beta has started for League of Legends players in the United States, Canada, and Brazil. Riot says League will roll out to all eligible regions in the future, while VALORANT account linking is also tied to the broader Discord integration plan.

Players can set up the Riot and Discord connection before the beta reaches their region. Nothing changes in League right away, but the account will already be linked when Riot enables the new Discord features locally.

Riot is still testing the feature, so linking issues or bugs can happen. Players who run into problems with the setup, or problems that affect their games, should go through Riot Player Support.

At launch, the Discord integration covers League of Legends and VALORANT. Riot plans to expand it to more games over time. Once a Riot ID is linked, the feature should automatically apply when support expands to additional games.

Privacy and account limits for Riot and Discord linking

Riot says it only shares information needed to enable the integration and help players make timely decisions about queuing with friends. Examples include Riot ID, Discord display name or account ID, what game a friend is playing, match score, party size, and party status.

Players with multiple Riot accounts should choose carefully. Riot says one Discord account cannot connect to multiple Riot IDs at the same time, so the best option is usually the Riot ID used most often for playing League with friends.

That connection also applies to supported Riot games tied to the same Riot ID. That means League and VALORANT players should not need to link twice if both games are tied to the same account.

How to find the official League of Legends Discord server

Riot lists the official League of Legends Discord on its League community page, alongside the game’s other official channels. The server is not needed for account linking, but it is a useful place to start for anyone who wants the official League Discord rather than a fan-run server.

Frequently asked questions about account linking LoL

How do I account link LoL with Discord?

You can link LoL with Discord through Riot account management, the League of Legends client, or Discord Connections. Each method requires confirming account authorization prompts.

What does Discord linking LoL do?

Discord linking lets League players invite Discord friends directly to parties, share lobby links, and see which eligible Discord friends play Riot games.

Which regions have Riot and Discord account linking?

The beta started with League players in the United States, Canada, and Brazil. Riot plans to open it to more eligible regions later.

Can I link more than one Riot ID to Discord?

No. One Discord account can only be linked to one Riot ID at a time. Use the Riot account you usually play on with friends.

Why do I not see my Discord friends in League?

They may not be formal Discord friends, may not have a Riot ID, or may not have linked their Riot and Discord accounts yet.

Do I need to link again for VALORANT?

League only shows Discord friends who meet the requirements. They need to be added as a Discord friend, have a Riot ID, and link their Riot and Discord accounts.

Will Riot add Discord chat to League?

Riot says it does not intend to add chat functionality at this time. The current integration is focused on parties, invites, and friend visibility.

What to check before linking Discord and League

Before linking anything, make sure the right Riot ID and Discord account are signed in. That matters most for players with more than one League account.

For now, the beta is still region-limited and may behave differently depending on location, client version, and whether friends have completed the same linking process. As the rollout expands, the feature should become a more standard part of how League groups form parties through Discord.
