Hextech skins: Full LoL list, release dates, prices and how to get them

by RiftDaily Admin | Oct 25, 2026 | Skins, Guides

Hextech skins are League of Legends cosmetics inspired by magical technology, featuring mechanical armor, glowing blue crystals, intricate machinery, and designs influenced by Piltover and Zaun. The collection includes older RP-priced skins and rare Mythic cosmetics originally unlocked with Gemstones.

The Hextech skin line began with Hextech Sion in 2010, but it became closely associated with rarity when Hextech Annie introduced the Gemstone-exclusive model in 2016. The complete list below covers every released Hextech skin in League of Legends, with splash art, release dates, original prices, and unlock methods.

Most Mythic Hextech skins can return through the Mythic Shop for Mythic Essence, while older Legacy skins follow different availability rules. This guide also explains what happened to Gemstones, how Hextech skin rotations work, which designs are worth collecting, and the alternate Piltover and Zaun universe behind the collection.

All Hextech skins in League of Legends

The complete LoL Hextech skins list is arranged in release order, beginning with the original RP-priced cosmetics and continuing through the Gemstone-exclusive Mythic collection. Each entry includes the skin's splash art, release date, original price, and acquisition method. The prices are historical, since later availability can differ from the original release. The release order reveals two very different generations of Hextech skins. The first five were conventional cosmetics with fixed RP prices, while the later Mythic collection was created around Gemstones and limited acquisition. Both groups share the Hextech universe, but their rarity and unlock methods are not the same.

The complete Hextech spotlight shows how the collection developed from relatively simple mechanical redesigns into more elaborate Mythic cosmetics with distinctive models, effects, and recalls.

All Hextech Skins Spotlight (League of Legends)

Across the collection, the same blue crystalline energy and intricate mechanical details appear in very different forms, from intelligent constructs such as Amumu and Kog'Maw to inventors and enhanced warriors such as Poppy, Kassadin, and Jarvan IV.

What are Hextech skins?

Hextech skins are an alternate-universe skin line set in a technologically advanced version of Piltover and Zaun. In this setting, inventors and artificers use magical crystals to create intelligent machines, mechanical weapons, enhanced bodies, and artificial life.

The signature Hextech appearance combines brass and gold machinery, metallic armor, gears, glowing blue crystals, electrical effects, and carefully engineered mechanical parts. Rather than placing every champion in identical armor, Riot adapts those details to each character's original silhouette and personality.

Hextech technology exists in League's broader Runeterra setting, but the Hextech skin line represents a separate alternate universe. Its champions have different biographies that imagine their lives during a technological renaissance centered on magical engineering.

Piltover Hextech language artwork showing stylized technological symbols and magical writing
Hextech's decorative language reflects the combination of scientific precision and magic associated with Piltover.

Not every champion who uses technology belongs to the Hextech skin line. A character may be connected to Piltover, Zaun, mechanical inventions, or magical crystals without having an official Hextech skin.

The official League of Legends website provides champion information and skin announcements, while the Hextech skin universe documents the separate stories behind the collection.

Hextech skins release dates and history

The Hextech skins release dates span two phases of League of Legends cosmetic history. The original skin line appeared between 2010 and 2011, long before Hextech Crafting existed. The later Mythic collection began in 2016 and continued through Hextech Tristana in 2021.

The important turning point was Hextech Annie. Instead of selling the skin for a normal RP price, Riot made it a special reward connected to Hextech Crafting and Gemstones. That transformed Hextech from an older mechanical theme into one of League's most recognizable premium collections.

PeriodMilestoneWhat changed
2010–2011Original Hextech cosmeticsSion, Galio, Singed, Janna, and Anivia launched as conventional RP-priced skins.
2016Hextech Annie and Hextech CraftingGemstone-exclusive Mythic skins became closely associated with the Hextech theme.
2017–2021Mythic Hextech expansionThe collection grew through elaborate artificial creatures, inventors, and mechanically enhanced champions.
2022Mythic Content OverhaulGemstones were replaced by Mythic Essence, and older Mythic skins became eligible for Mythic Shop unvaulting.

Riot also retired Hextech as its ongoing Mythic-exclusive theme during the 2022 overhaul, making room for other premium collections such as Ashen Knight. Retiring the theme did not remove the existing cosmetics or make every Hextech skin permanently unobtainable.

How to get Hextech skins

How to get Hextech skins depends on the specific cosmetic. The Mythic Hextech collection generally returns through the Mythic Shop for Mythic Essence, while the five original Legacy skins can be obtained through eligible loot or special Legacy availability.

  1. Choose the Hextech skin you want. Check the release-order table to identify whether it was originally an RP skin or a Gemstone-exclusive Mythic cosmetic.
  2. Open the Mythic Shop for Mythic skins. The shop is accessible through the Loot tab in the League client and contains rotating premium cosmetics available for Mythic Essence.
  3. Save Mythic Essence. Keep enough ME for your preferred skin rather than assuming you can purchase it directly for RP when it appears.
  4. For Legacy skins, check eligible loot and special offers. Hextech Sion, Galio, Singed, Janna, and Anivia do not use the same Mythic Shop rules as the Gemstone-exclusive collection.
  5. Check whether the skin is eligible for loot or rerolls. Some older Mythic skins can appear through eligible loot systems, but random rewards are not a reliable way to target one specific skin.
Hextech Amumu splash art showing a small mechanical construct with glowing blue eyes
Mythic Hextech skins such as Hextech Amumu originally required Gemstones and can return through the Mythic Shop.

Riot Games Support provides official guidance on Mythic Essence, Hextech Crafting, shop purchases, skin shards, and account-specific eligibility. Check the League client before spending resources because the availability of a particular cosmetic can change independently of its original release method.

Hextech skins prices, Gemstones and Mythic Essence

Hextech skins prices depend on which generation of the collection you mean. The original skins cost between 520 and 975 RP, while the later Mythic cosmetics originally cost 10 Gemstones each.

Gemstones were retired in March 2022 when Riot introduced Mythic Essence. Every Gemstone in a player's inventory was converted into 10 Mythic Essence, so a collection of 10 Gemstones became 100 ME. The conversion rate did not establish a permanent 100 ME price for every returning Hextech skin.

Hextech skin categoryOriginal priceHow pricing works afterward
Hextech Sion, Galio, and Singed520 RP eachLegacy availability rather than Mythic Shop pricing
Hextech Anivia750 RPLegacy availability and eligible loot
Hextech Janna975 RPLegacy availability and eligible loot
Gemstone-exclusive Hextech skins10 Gemstones eachReturning Mythic skins are purchased with ME when listed
First unvault under the original Mythic Shop framework100 MEHistorical first-return price introduced in 2022
Subsequent unvaults under that framework125 MEHistorical repeat-return price, not a guaranteed permanent listing

When Riot launched the Mythic Shop, older Gemstone skins were assigned a first-unvault cost of 100 ME and a higher price for later returns. Those amounts explain the original system, but they should not be treated as a promise that every future listing will use the same price.

The simplest rule for collecting Hextech skins is to use the price shown in your League client when the skin is offered. Historical Gemstone prices are useful for understanding the collection, but the shop listing determines what you need to spend.

How to get Mythic Essence for Hextech skins

Mythic Essence is a rare currency used for premium content in the Mythic Shop. It does not expire, so you can save it for a Hextech skin you specifically want instead of spending it during every rotation.

Riot has distributed Mythic Essence through different reward systems, including premium content such as the Sanctum, Battle Pass rewards, and eligible loot. The available sources and amounts can vary as Riot revises its cosmetic economy.

Mythic Essence is not the same as Blue Essence or Orange Essence. Blue Essence is primarily associated with champion-related purchases, Orange Essence is used to permanently unlock eligible cosmetic shards, and Mythic Essence is spent on selected rare content in the Mythic Shop.

You also cannot assume a fixed RP-to-ME exchange rate. Mythic Essence is acquired through reward systems rather than purchased as a standard currency bundle with one permanent conversion price.

Can you still get Hextech skins?

Yes, you can still get Hextech skins. The original Legacy skins and the later Mythic collection remain obtainable through their respective systems when eligible. However, the method depends on the skin, and not every cosmetic is available for direct purchase at the same time.

For most players searching for old Hextech skins, the Mythic Shop is the main place to look. Riot uses it to offer returning premium cosmetics, including former Gemstone-exclusive Hextech skins.

Do Hextech skins return to the Mythic Shop?

Yes. Riot's Mythic Content Overhaul explicitly made old Gemstone skins eligible for Mythic Shop unvaulting. Hextech Annie and Hextech Amumu were among the first returning cosmetics when the system launched.

The Mythic Shop does not permanently display the full Hextech collection. Instead, it offers a changing selection of Mythic cosmetics, meaning your preferred skin may be unavailable until another rotation or offer.

Because Mythic Shop selections and refresh rules can change, the best long-term advice is to check your own League client rather than rely on an old public rotation calendar. The displayed availability and price are what matter when deciding whether to spend Mythic Essence.

RiftDaily's League of Legends updates cover major changes to Mythic Essence, Hextech Crafting, and Riot's premium cosmetic systems.

Why Hextech Annie changed the skin line

Hextech Annie is one of the most important cosmetics in the collection because it introduced the Gemstone-exclusive approach that later became synonymous with Mythic Hextech skins.

Her design reimagines Annie as a gifted inventor who creates advanced mechanical companions. Tibbers becomes a living mechanical warbear, preserving the champion's familiar relationship with her bear while giving both characters a completely different technological identity.

Hextech Annie matters for more than its appearance. It established a recognizable relationship between rare crafting rewards, premium mechanical designs, and Mythic-rarity skins.

Later releases such as Hextech Poppy, Amumu, Rammus, and Kog'Maw developed that idea further, each introducing a different artificial creature or technological interpretation.

Hextech skins splash art and visual design

Hextech skins are built around the contrast between precise mechanical engineering and unpredictable magical energy. The recurring use of blue crystalline light, heavy metal plating, gold details, clockwork mechanisms, and advanced artificial constructs gives the collection a strong visual identity.

Hextech Malzahar illustrates how Riot adapts the theme to a champion whose original appearance is not particularly mechanical. Instead of simply covering Malzahar in machinery, the skin treats his mystical identity as a form of technological prophecy.

The same design philosophy works differently for other champions. Hextech Rammus becomes a mechanical rolling creature, Hextech Galio is an enormous artificial guardian, and Hextech Sejuani combines a technologically enhanced rider and mount.

For players choosing between Hextech cosmetics, splash art is an excellent starting point, but an in-game preview is more useful for evaluating spell effects, models, animations, and recalls.

Hextech skins lore: Piltover, Zaun and the Hextech Renaissance

The Hextech skin universe imagines an alternate Piltover and Zaun where magical engineering has become the foundation of a technological renaissance. Inventors can create intelligent machines, build extraordinary weapons, and integrate technology into living bodies.

This advancement comes with difficult questions. Some artificial creatures develop intelligence and emotions, while experiments involving living tissue, machinery, and dangerous magical forces can create unpredictable results.

Piltover faction emblem representing the city of scientific and magical innovation
Piltover represents the wealthy, innovative side of the Hextech Renaissance, where advanced technology is a source of prestige.
Zaun faction emblem representing the industrial city associated with experimental technology
Zaun reflects the more hazardous side of invention, where industrial ambition and dangerous experiments can go hand in hand.

Within the Hextech universe, the champions are broadly divided into artificers and golems. Artificers are inventors, engineers, and users of Hextech technology, while golems are artificial beings or creatures shaped by magical machinery.

Hextech artificers

The artificer group includes Annie, Janna, Jarvan IV, Kassadin, Malzahar, Poppy, Sejuani, Singed, Swain, Tristana, and Ziggs.

These characters explore different applications of magical technology. Annie creates mechanical companions, Poppy researches artificial life, Kassadin integrates technology into his own body, and Sejuani develops technologically enhanced mounts. Swain uses artificial creatures to expand his influence, while Ziggs concentrates on increasingly chaotic inventions and explosions.

Hextech golems

The golem group includes Alistar, Amumu, Anivia, Galio, Kog'Maw, Nocturne, Rammus, Renekton, and Sion.

Some are intelligent, useful, or protective creations. Hextech Alistar guards valuable technological secrets, Hextech Galio is an enormous artificial guardian, and Hextech Anivia represents an important breakthrough in creating intelligent mechanical life.

Others reveal the darker possibilities of the technology. Hextech Amumu is an abandoned companion that begins experiencing emotions, Hextech Nocturne originates from a forbidden supernatural experiment, and Hextech Renekton is a dangerous fusion of flesh and machinery.

The distinction between artificers and golems gives the Hextech skin line more depth than a collection of matching mechanical outfits. It creates a society of inventors and their creations, complete with ambition, progress, mistakes, and consequences.

Hextech skins by champion

Every champion in the Hextech collection has their own mechanical interpretation. Unlike skin lines that frequently revisit the same character, the established Hextech releases are distributed across different champions, roles, and playstyles.

CategoryChampionsDesign focus
Original Legacy skinsSion, Galio, Singed, Janna, AniviaEarly mechanical models and magical technology
Mythic artificersAnnie, Poppy, Malzahar, Jarvan IV, Swain, Sejuani, Ziggs, Kassadin, TristanaInventors, mechanical weapons, and technological enhancements
Mythic golemsKog'Maw, Alistar, Renekton, Rammus, Amumu, NocturneArtificial creatures, intelligent machines, and unstable experiments

The artificer and golem division is useful when comparing Hextech skins by champion, but it does not indicate rarity or price. Both groups contain Gemstone-exclusive Mythic skins.

Players who prefer a specific role can use the RiftDaily League of Legends guides to compare champions before committing rare currency to a cosmetic.

Hextech Sejuani and the mechanical mount Bristech

Hextech Sejuani is one of the most visually elaborate skins in the collection because it transforms both the champion and her mount. Instead of a warrior from the Freljord, the alternate-universe version of Sejuani is a wealthy Piltovan entrepreneur connected to the development of Hextech mounts.

Her companion Bristech is a large mechanically enhanced mount built around the same blue crystalline energy and ornate engineering found throughout the skin line.

Bristech makes Hextech Sejuani distinctive by applying the theme to the champion's mount as well as her armor.

Her in-game spotlight demonstrates how the design carries into Sejuani's mounted animations, spell effects, attacks, and recall.

If you enjoy cosmetics that significantly change a champion's companion or mount, Hextech Sejuani is one of the strongest thematic examples in the collection.

Hextech Tristana and the Hexcrystal Cannon

Hextech Tristana is another strong example of how Riot adapted the theme around a champion's defining equipment. Her weapon becomes an elaborate crystal-powered cannon, while her armor and appearance reinforce the idea of a technologically enhanced defender.

In the Hextech universe, Tristana is associated with the Hexcrystal Cannon Mark III and is recognized for using advanced weapon technology to protect the innocent.

Compared with the earliest Hextech cosmetics, Tristana illustrates the more detailed character-specific approach Riot used in later Mythic releases.

Which are the best Hextech skins?

The best Hextech skins depend on whether you prefer detailed mechanical models, distinctive ability effects, character lore, or collecting historically significant cosmetics. Rarity alone does not make a skin the best option for every player.

  • Hextech Annie: The most historically important Mythic Hextech skin, particularly appealing if you like the mechanical Tibbers design.
  • Hextech Poppy: A natural fit for the mechanical theme, with a large engineered hammer and an artificer-focused identity.
  • Hextech Kog'Maw: A distinctive artificial creature that makes the technological theme feel playful rather than intimidating.
  • Hextech Amumu: One of the collection's most memorable character concepts, turning Amumu into a lonely mechanical companion.
  • Hextech Rammus: A particularly good match for a champion whose gameplay already revolves around rolling and heavy armor.
  • Hextech Sejuani: An elaborate design that changes both the champion and her mount, Bristech.
  • Hextech Swain: A sophisticated inventor design that incorporates artificial birds and advanced machinery into Swain's identity.
  • Hextech Tristana: A polished later release centered on the Hexcrystal Cannon and recognizable blue-and-gold mechanical styling.

If you are deciding which Hextech skin to unlock, compare the in-game model, spell effects, animations, recall, and the champions you regularly play. A skin for your favorite champion is usually a more satisfying use of Mythic Essence than a rarer cosmetic that remains unused.

Are Hextech skins rare?

Mythic Hextech skins are relatively rare because they were originally unlocked through Gemstones rather than sold for a normal RP price. Collecting 10 Gemstones often required significant time or investment in the loot system.

That does not mean every Hextech skin is equally rare. The original five are Legacy skins, while the Gemstone-exclusive releases belong to the Mythic tier. Later Mythic Shop returns can also change how accessible a particular skin is to collectors.

There is no dependable public ownership ranking showing exactly which Hextech skin is the rarest across all servers. The more useful distinction is between Legacy availability, historical Gemstone exclusivity, and whether the skin can return through Mythic Shop offers.

Hextech skins versus Hextech Crafting and other Mythic skins

Hextech skins, Hextech Crafting, Gemstone skins, and Mythic Essence skins are related, but they are not interchangeable terms.

TermMeaningExample
Hextech skin lineThe alternate-universe cosmetic collection based on magical machinery and artificial life.Hextech Annie, Poppy, Sejuani
Hextech CraftingLeague's loot and cosmetic crafting system.Opening a Hextech Chest or unlocking a skin shard
Gemstone skinA historical term for premium cosmetics purchased using Gemstones.Hextech Amumu originally costing 10 Gemstones
Mythic Essence skinA premium cosmetic purchased with ME through the Mythic Shop.A returning Hextech skin
Prestige skinA separate Mythic cosmetic category focused on exclusive premium designs.Prestige K/DA Kai'Sa

Opening a Hextech Chest does not guarantee a skin from the Hextech collection. Hextech Crafting is the name of the loot system, and its rewards are not limited to the mechanical skin line.

Similarly, not every Mythic skin belongs to the Hextech collection. Riot has created other Mythic themes and premium cosmetics with their own designs and acquisition rules.

Hextech skins and other Piltover and Zaun cosmetics

League of Legends includes many technological skin themes that resemble Hextech without officially belonging to the collection. PROJECT, Pulsefire, Battlecast, and other futuristic cosmetics use machinery or energy-powered designs, but they have separate universes and artistic identities.

The Hextech collection specifically emphasizes the magical industrial renaissance of Piltover and Zaun, with a recognizable combination of blue crystals, gold machinery, artificers, and artificial life.

Riot Games has expanded these technological ideas across other League projects and stories. The Riot Games website provides information about the company's wider game universe and creative projects.

How to find future Hextech skins and related releases

Riot retired Hextech as its recurring Mythic-exclusive theme, but the magical technology of Piltover and Zaun remains an important part of League of Legends. A new skin featuring mechanical armor or blue crystals would not automatically belong to the original Hextech collection.

Follow RiftDaily's League of Legends news for confirmed cosmetic announcements and the official League of Legends YouTube channel for skin trailers, previews, and Riot's own presentations.

Our League of Legends leaks coverage can also highlight test-server discoveries and early reports, but unconfirmed skin names or release details should not be treated as final until Riot announces them.

The main Hextech skins list focuses on released cosmetics rather than speculative additions, keeping its release dates, splash art, and original prices useful as a historical reference.

Common mistakes when collecting Hextech skins

Because the Hextech collection spans several generations of League's cosmetic economy, it is easy to confuse older acquisition methods with the systems used for returning skins.

  • Do not assume every Hextech skin is Mythic. The first five were ordinary RP-priced skins and later became Legacy cosmetics.
  • Do not try to save Gemstones. Riot retired them in 2022 and converted existing Gemstones into Mythic Essence.
  • Do not assume 10 Gemstones means every return costs 100 ME. The conversion rate and the shop price are different things.
  • Do not expect every Mythic Hextech skin to remain permanently available. The Mythic Shop uses rotating or limited offers.
  • Do not confuse Hextech Crafting with the Hextech skin line. Loot chests can provide many types of cosmetics.
  • Do not assume all older Hextech skins use the Mythic Shop. The five original Legacy skins follow different acquisition rules.
  • Do not rely on old shop calendars to determine availability. Check the offers and prices shown in your own League client.
  • Do not assume a returning skin includes every original collectible. Icons, borders, and related content may have different availability rules.
  • Do not prioritize rarity over personal value. A Hextech skin for a champion you enjoy is often more worthwhile than one you rarely use.

Riot retired Hextech as its ongoing Mythic-exclusive theme during the 2022 Mythic Content Overhaul. The existing cosmetics remain part of League's collection, while other premium skin themes have taken over the role of new Mythic thematic releases.

Build your Hextech collection around the champions you enjoy

Hextech skins occupy a distinctive place in League of Legends history. What began as a small group of mechanical-themed cosmetics developed into one of Riot's most recognizable Mythic collections, connecting Hextech Crafting, Gemstones, artificial life, and the advanced magical engineering of Piltover and Zaun.

If you want to collect the Mythic skins, save Mythic Essence for the champions you regularly play and check your League client when your preferred cosmetic is available. If you are looking for the original Legacy skins, focus on their separate availability and eligible loot systems instead.
